The Backlot is a huge affordable space for music production rehearsals, video shoots, film, tv, photography and content, plus use for other small group activities.
We provide the space and you bring your vision and production
Multi-use space for video and film production, music production rehearsal, and many other creative group uses. The Soundwave Studios Backlot works for small DIY shoots that only need a few hours and also large production crews that appreciate our comfortable campus vibe, big flexible indoor and outdoor spaces, and all day inclusive pricing.

Built in backgrounds:
35’ wide x 12’ high white wall, 35”high x 12’ wide pre lit green wall, or full black out with 35’ wide x 12’ high black drape wall
Lighting and Amenities
Included with your rental:
3 Aputure 300c lights mounted on ceiling grid to light the white wall any color you choose
3 Kino Flo Diva lights mounted on ceiling grid to light green wall
Mirror / dressing room area
Sound System, mixing board and 2 Yamaha speakers
30 Chairs and 5 folding table, many ladders , 10 sand bags, fans
Speaker Wall and props
Included with your rental :
Props and furniture available on site include a bunch of old speakers and music gear, chain link fencing, pianos, furniture, plants, and a walk through refrigerator

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :
Is the Soundwave Backlot sound isolated ?
Not so much... , it is a metal warehouse and there can be sound bleed from outdoors and from neighboring studios. It’s not perfect, we’re working on it, but that said, many shoots have successfully recorded live audio and worked around the sound limitations.
Can we shoot in the outdoor spaces ?
Yes when you rent the backlot you are allowed to shoot outside using our industrial backgrounds and the different vibes around the Soundwave Studios campus.
How about Parking ?
The backlot has its own enclosed parking lot and yard area where you can park equipment trucks and 5-10 vehicles, and also work on set builds. Additionally there are many parking spaces all along Wood Street.
What’s the neighborhood like ?
After years of challenges, our West Oakland neighborhood is very much on the rise. The streets are clear, we are a block away from Raimondi park the home of the Oakland Ballers, and two blocks away from the fabulous new Prescott market food hall.
